You’ll tour across the globe with the “Dream Machine World tour” in 2017. As you announced it, you seemed kind of nostalgic. How’s that?
Bill: It simply was our true feeling. The new album is very special to us, somehow. Almost everything has changed and somehow nothing has either. We’ve been doing this all for 10 years already, but it means more to us than it has ever before. When you get a couple of years older, you probably get more sentimental? I don’t know! However, our dream never changed and it feels like we are living it more than ever. We’re more aware of it. We, as a band, feel more free and comfortable with our creativity, environment and with the people we are working together with. But at the same time we’re less prepared to compromise than back then; we know exactly what we want. We only do what we want to do. That’s also the core of the new album and the tour. Dreams. Our dream…the “Dream Machine”, which keeps on spinning and is in regular motion, just as life is.
Are there already some details about “Dream Machine”? What’s behind the exciting title? What can new and old fans expect from the new tour?
Bill: We want to realize our visions with this tour. We want to fulfill our dreams and live them, in private life and on stage as well, with our art and performance. To have the guts. Everyone knows we’re already visual. It will be a big show. We want to set up new things on stage. Unseen things with an idea and soul. We have the feeling that we settled down as a band and we want to share it with everyone on our tour. A Tokio Hotel concert is always a show. An experience. We’re not a singer-songwriter, who jams with his or her acoustic guitars for 4 hours and looks at what happens. We want to create memories and we want it to reflect our sounds and performance, pictures and visual production. It’s the whole entirety. The show will be a trip.
With “Kings of suburbia” you welcomed a californian sound in your music. Will your journey keep going through the states?
Bill: The sound will be definitively tie on the last album. We haven’t been doing rock music for a long time already. The album will be more experimental, but the sound will remain electro pop. We’ve found our musical taste in it.
For many people, a dream will come true when they will see you performing live in Germany again. What does it mean to play in front of a German audience?
Bill: It’s very special. Since Tom and I don’t live in Germany anymore, we can appreciate it again and we love to come back here and to be on tour. Germany inspires us again. It had been different, for a while. We love to come back home. We’re German at heart and it’s our homeland. That’s why the German shows are very specific, exciting and they mean so much to us.
Avec la «Dream Machine World Tour», vous partirez à nouveau en tournée partout dans le monde en 2017. Lors de votre annonce, vous avez partagé une image nostalgique. Pour quelle raison?
Bill: C’était simplement notre sentiment spontané. Ce nouvel album est d’une certaine manière très spécial pour nous. Presque tout a changé, et en même temps, rien n’a changé. Nous faisons cela depuis maintenant plus de dix ans, mais cela a plus d’importance que jamais aujourd’hui. Et peut-être qu’on devient plus sentimental avec l’âge!? Aucune idée!
Dans tous les cas, notre rêve n’a jamais changé et nous avons l’impression de le vivre davantage qu’avant, de manière plus consciente, d’une certaine façon! En tant que groupe, nous sommes plus libres et nous nous sentons mieux avec notre créativité, notre environnement, les personnes avec lesquelles nous travaillons. En même temps, nous sommes moins prêts qu’avant à faire des compromis et nous savons exactement ce que nous voulons, et nous ne faisons que ce que nous aimons. C’est aussi le cœur de l’album et de la tournée. Les rêves, notre rêve… La «Dream Machine» (Machine à rêves), qui tourne et est en permanence en mouvement, tout comme la vie.
Y-a-t’il déjà des détails au sujet de «Dream Machine»? Qu’est-ce qui se cache derrière ce titre captivant? À quoi les fans, qu’ils soient nouveaux ou anciens, peuvent-ils s’attendre?
Bill: Avec cette tournée, nous voulons concrétiser nos visions. Réaliser et vivre nos rêves, que ce soit dans la sphère privée, mais aussi sur scène, avec notre art et nos performances! Avoir le courage nécessaire.
De plus, tout le monde sait que nous sommes toujours très visuels. Il y aura donc un grand spectacle. Nous voulons faire de nouvelles choses sur scène. De l’inédit, avec une idée et une âme. Nous avons l’impression d’être arrivés à maturité avec le groupe et nous voulons partager cela avec les gens lors de la tournée. Un concert de Tokio Hotel est toujours un spectacle. Une expérience! Nous ne sommes pas des chanteurs-compositeurs qui jouent pendant quatre heures avec leur guitare acoustique et qui regardent ce qui se passe. Nous voulons créer des souvenirs et faire en sorte que nos sons soient reflétés dans notre performance, dans les images et dans la production visuelle. Cela forme un tout. Le spectacle devient un voyage!
Avec „Kings of Suburbia“, vous avez introduit un son californien dans votre musique. Le voyage à travers les Etats va-t-il continuer?
Bill: Le son renoue avec le dernier album, absolument! Cela fait longtemps que nous ne faisons plus de la musique rock. Dans l’ensemble, l’album est beaucoup plus expérimental, mais le son reste de l’electro-pop. Nous avons trouvé notre style musical.
Pour beaucoup de personnes, vous voir à nouveau en concert en Allemagne est un rêve qui se réalise. Qu’est-ce que cela signifie pour vous, de jouer devant un public allemand?
Bill: C’est très spécial. Depuis que Tom et moi n’habitons plus en Allemagne, nous apprécions ce pays à sa juste valeur et aimons beaucoup y revenir, notamment pour les tournées. Et l’Allemagne nous inspire à nouveau énormément. Pendant un moment, c’était différent. Nous adorons revenir à la maison. Dans notre cœur, nous sommes allemands, et c’est notre patrie. C’est pourquoi les concerts en Allemagne sont toujours particuliers, excitant et comptent beaucoup pour nous.
