Host: The madness goes on!
Bill: Will we get a flower bouquet?!
Host: No, you don’t get one but Gustav said he wants to get a flower bouquet so bad during yesterdays rehearsals and he said ‘I only gonna go to Wetten, dass…? if I receive flowers’. Gustav come down and join us and then you get the flowers.
Host: All right then everyone to the couch.
Host: Gustav, here you are! These are your flowers! Follow me guys! Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav. I’m really glad you are here! It’s been 5 years….. but no comeback. They just forgot to work.
Host: Benedikt, did you listen to Tokio Hotel in the past? Was it ‘your’ band?
Benedikt Höwedes: Well, I have to be honest, it wasn’t really my music at the beginning. Maybe that’ll change now?
Host: So Bill do you think wow I’m glad to be back! or do you think the madness starts all over again? Today I took a look in front of your hotel and everybody was standing there again.
Bill: Yes well we notice that the madness is starting again. But we also had lots of free time in the past so we’re ready. It feels good!
Tom: Yeah and I was looking forward to Megan Fox! Where is she now?
Host: Well unfortunately she had to leave already. How do you experience everything at the moment? I remember a time when they threw braces on stage when you came. Did that change into dental prosthesis now?
Bill: Oh well I like both, braces or dental prosthesis who cares? But it really feels good and we saw the band with 4 people again a few days ago too. And yeah it just feels good overall and we are really happy with the album and the song and also the feedback is great, better than we expected so we are really satisfied.
Host: What do you get… I mean in L.A. how many time did you spend there Tom?
Tom: Uhm about 4 years I guess, yeah.
Host: When you are in L.A. do you notice all the things that are happening over here in Germany and how the whole music business changes?
Tom: We notice a lot! But the music business changed like crazy. I mean when we started out Facebook just started and wasn’t as big as it is now either, we didn’t take selfies but wrote lots of autographs…
Bill: This time the question really was: Will we even print autograph cards? Because there are many people who don’t want autographs anymore and they only want a selfie and if you say no then they say they want none of these things.
Host: That’s really totally wicked stuff you’re experiencing. You’re talking like grandfathers like ‘in the past everything was different and a lot better!’.
Bill: In the past everything was different!
Host: You two stayed here during that time right?
Georg: Yes we stayed in Magdeburg.
Host: Georg and Gustav stayed in Magdeburg. Did you have contact with each other?
Georg: Yes all the time. We often flew over and visited them and yeah.
Bill: I don’t like you using my golden microphone. Don’t we have one left?
Host: It’s also that tone between you guys. So the friendship lasted through all those years? I mean you guys started out very young.
Gustav: Yes definitely and it’ll stay that way. It’s like our longest relationship.
Host: I once met you guys many years ago, you probably won’t remember because it was just a really brief encounter, but I thought hopefully they’ll get through that madness and hopefully they’ll survive it. Did you think the same way?
Bill: Well I was actually always really confident that we’ll survive it but the break definitely was good for everyone. We just needed a break. We never talked about how long it’ll be so we didn’t have a deadline and also our record label didn’t give us one and we just said we’ll come back once we got some good music. And yeah now it actually lasted longer than we planned. We wanted to release something last year already but we had a run in the studio so we decided to add another year.
Host: And now everything’s going well! Now the band who used to polarize because the hair wasn’t right or something is being played on the radio.
Bill: I still think Georgs hair sucks. But we heard our song on the radio for the first time in Germany because we were never played on the radio in the past, that only happened in other countries, and on our way to Berlin we really heard it on the radio and we think that’s a great progress.
Host: To be honest that’s really hard to believe right? When such a successful band hears their own song for the first time on the radio after such a long time.
Now we want to expand our guests with a man and I guess especially Bill knows him very well, who is also a very big fan of Tokio Hotel. And you also had an experience together where you toured through the night for the wonderful series of ARTE (german TV channel).

Host: You kind of look like the lost band member of Tokio Hotel.
Joop: More like their grandfather. We also had to wait for each other 4 long years right?

Bill : Les fleurs sont pour moi ?
Présentateur : C’est bon de te revoir. Non, le bouquet n’est pas pour toi. Gustav a dit hier, pendant la répétition, qu’il voulait absolument des fleurs et qu’il ne viendrait à « Wetten, dass… ? » que s’il recevait un bouquet. Gustav, descends nous voir, tu vas recevoir tes fleurs ! Tu vas y arriver ? Attention !
– Venez tous avec moi sur le canapé. Bill, Tom, Georg, Gustav ! Nous sommes heureux de vous voir. Tokio Hotel ! Partis pendant cinq ans ; pas de come-back, ils ont simplement oublié de travailler, on pourrait dire.
– Benedict, tu avais déjà entendu Tokio Hotel avant ?
Benedict Höwedes : Je dois dire que ce n’était pas tout à fait mon truc, au début…
Présentateur : Comment est-ce possible ?
– Alors, Bill, ça fait plaisir, de revenir, ou est-ce que tu te dis « Houlà, ça recommence ! ». Vous avez vécu cette folie devant l’hôtel ce matin ; ils étaient à nouveau très nombreux.
Bill : Oui, on remarque que la folie recommence, mais nous avons fait une longue pause, donc… Nous sommes prêts ; ça fait plaisir !
Présentateur : Comment vivez-vous ce qui recommence maintenant ? Je me rappelle d’un temps où, quand vous arriviez, on voyait voler les appareils dentaires. Est-ce que c’est maintenant plutôt les prothèses dentaires ?
Bill : Je pense que les deux sont bien. Mais ça fait vraiment plaisir ! Nous avons revu les fans pour la première fois à quatre, il y a quelques jours. Ça fait du bien ! Nous sommes vraiment satisfaits de l’album, des chansons. Les échos que nous en avons eus sont très bons, bien meilleurs que ce à quoi nous nous attendions. Les choses ne pourraient pas aller mieux !
Présentateur : Vous avez passé ces dernières années à L.A. Combien d’années étaient-ce, Tom ?
Tom : Plus ou moins quatre ans, je crois.
Présentateur : Que pensez-vous de ce qui se passe maintenant en Allemagne, dans l’industrie de la musique, où beaucoup de choses changent ?
Tom : Oui, l’industrie de la musique a énormément changé. Quand nous avons commencé, Facebook venait à peine de débuter, nous ne devions pas encore faire de selfies, nous avons signé des autographes, et ce genre de choses.
Bill : Nous nous sommes cette fois-ci réellement posé la question : « Est-ce qu’on va encore imprimer des cartes signées ? », parce que la plupart des gens ne veulent même plus avoir d’autographes, ils ne veulent qu’un selfie ; et si on ne fait pas de selfie, ils ne veulent rien du tout, même pas une signature.
Présentateur : C’est incroyable, ce que vous vivez là ! Je ne peux pas comprendre ça. Ils parlent comme des grands-pères : « Avant, c’était mieux,… ».
Bill : Tout était différent, avant.
Présentateur : C’était différent, exactement ; mais pas spécialement mieux.
– [A Georg et Gustav] Vous êtes restés ici tout ce temps, n’est-ce pas ?
Georg : Oui, tout à fait, nous sommes restés à Magdeburg.
Présentateur : Georg et Gustav, restés à Magdeburg. Vous aviez des contacts avec les jumeaux ?
Georg : Oui, tout le temps. Nous sommes aussi allés souvent leur rendre visite.
Bill : Je n’aime pas trop que tu utilises mon micro doré. On ne pourrait pas en avoir un autre ? [rires]
Présentateur : Il y a toujours cette chouette relation entre vous. Vous avez toujours eu cette bonne amitié, Gustav ? Vous avez commencé très tôt à jouer ensemble.
Gustav : Oui, bien sûr. Et ça va rester comme ça ; c’est la relation la plus longue que nous connaissons.
Présentateur : Je vous ai rencontré il y a des années – vous ne vous en rappelez peut-être plus, c’était une rencontre très rapide – et j’ai pu mesurer la folie qui vous entourait ; et je me suis dit : « J’espère qu’ils vont pouvoir surmonter tout ça, qu’ils vont survivre à ça. » Est-ce que vous ressentez cela aussi ?
Bill : J’ai toujours été sûr que nous allions survivre à tout ça. Mais cette pause nous a fait du bien. Nous n’avions pas prévu combien de temps ça allait durer ; nous ne nous sommes pas imposés de deadline, et notre maison de disque non plus. Nous avons simplement dit que nous donnerions de nos nouvelles quand nous aurons à nouveau de la musique…
Tom : Et ça a pris un peu plus de temps…
Bill : Oui, ça a pris plus de temps que nous l’avions prévu. Nous avions un album prêt l’année passée, mais nous sommes retournés en studio ; maintenant, on se dit que c’est bien qu’on ait continué un peu.
Présentateur : Et maintenant, tout se passe très bien. Le groupe qui a toujours été critiqué – parce que les cheveux n’allaient pas, et ceci, et cela – ce groupe passe aujourd’hui à la radio.
Bill : Je trouve que la coiffure de Georg est toujours merdique… [rires] Non, mais nous avons entendu pour la première fois notre chanson à la radio en Allemagne, parce que nous ne passions jamais à la radio ici avant, uniquement dans d’autres pays. Quand nous étions à Berlin, nous avons pour la première fois entendu notre propre chanson à la radio, c’est déjà un beau progrès !
Présentateur : C’est quand même difficile à croire, qu’un groupe si connu entende pour la première fois sa propre chanson à la radio !
